Home Studio to Mini Music Venue: Take and Make Great Photography with Gavin Hoey

Photographing a live music performance is an exciting experience but stage lighting isn't always photographer friendly and leads to high ISO shooting or motion blur. Fortunately Gavin Hoey has the perfect solution as he transforms his small home studio into a mini music venue.

Using flash rather then stage lights gives Gavin the extra light he needs but limits the effects, so in this video Gavin runs through three simple set-ups starting with a single speedlight and ending with a five light shot.

As well as careful lighting, Gavin's other secret is fast dissipating smoke which creates some amazing effects as it quickly turns from smoke into a light haze.

Finally Gavin has so simple Photoshop help to hide any distracting light stands that may appear in your shots.
