What is Adobe Project VoCo? - Manipulate Voice | Adobe Max 2016

A software that not only edits speech like a word processor but also manipulates it and adds words someone never said. Adobe showed us a sneak peak of this tool, code-named Project VoCo, at Adobe MAX 2016. It takes 20 minutes of voice samples from a given speaker, analyses it and breaks it into "phonemes", or units of speech that differentiates one word from other. Hence, it transcribes the voice and and uses all the given data to create a voice model. PiXimperfect presents a detailed analysis and video of Project VoCo in action.

This app lets one edit the voice like a word processor. It’s not clear at this time when it will materialize as a commercial product. It will be very useful when recording voiceovers, dialog, and narration. People would often like to change or insert a word or a few words due to either a mistake they made or simply because they would like to change part of the narrative.

This technology raises all kinds of questions. What happens if you can’t even trust what sounds like a genuine recording of somebody’s speech anymore? This might become an asset to criminals and a liability to the judicial system.
