Impactful Look in Photoshop - Intense Portrait Photography Editing - Shot with Fujifilm FinePix E550

First duplicate background and brighten shadows. To brighten layer change blending to screen. Add layer mask and apply image to shadows.
Now duplicate background and darken highlights. To darken layer change blending to multiply. Add layer mask and apply image to highlights.
Create a new layer from all the visible layers by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E (for windows) CMD +Shift + Opt + E (for MAC). Use this layer for DODGE & BURN. Change the layer blending to screen to lightens the overall image.
Now double click on the layer to open blending options. Drag the black triangles (underlying layer) to the right until you will see that the particular lighten areas are influenced. Now Hold Option or Alt Key clicking on the triangles splits them so you can feather the blending effect.
Create a new layer from all the visible layers by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E. Use this layer to improve the look and details. Go to filter – other – high pass and set radius around 30px (Radius depends on the size of the photograph). Change the layer blending to Linear Light.
Apply gaussian blur to add Softness to Highlight and Shadow details. Keep blur radius around 30px. I want to apply softness effect only to the highlights. So add layer mask and apply image to highlights.
Again create a new layer from all the visible layers by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Alt + E. Use this layer to enhance the eyes. Change the layer blending to Screen. Add inverted layer mask, hold ALT or OPT key and click on layer mask icon. Now take soft edge brush, keep foreground color white and paint on eyes. Lower the opacity of the layer to your preference.
Final step add Vignette effect, so that your viewer focuses on the subject of the image.
